Term 2 goals...

Some of my goals for Term 2 are:

To try extremely hard to get past regionals in the KLQ
To put 120% effort into everything I do
To always be on task, and focused
To push myself to new limits
To be creative
To venture outside my comfort zone
To listen, but also speak up
To smile and be happy!

Prompt: ...but where would we hide it all?... I scuttle through the streets, covered in grime from head to toe. A bundle in my arms bobs up and down with slight footfalls. Blood red and crisp in the night air, defiance rests in my shivering hands, juicy and sweet. How I long to take just one bite, to sink my teeth into it’s perfect skin. Street rats hurry behind me, innocent, helpless, silent and stealthy, unnoticed beneath the blanket of stars. But where would we hide it all? As we approach the decrepit building, a horrible feeling of guilt grabs hold of me, dragging me into the darkness.

Prompt: flame, swimming, celebrated, white, tomorrow I lit my candle on that night. A lonely flame , swimming in the haze, radiating warmth. An outcast, apart from a sea of light. I sit alone, away from the mass of people swathed in a colourful array. White . Enveloping me, folds and creases holding me tight. Dirty. Purity stained with the grime of the streets, a rat, I sit hunched on the steps, arms wrapped around my bloodied knees. Floating, bobbing in the waves, an offering set out to the world beyond, a beacon in the dark. Tomorrow , this light will be celebrated . And I will light my candle.

David Hill

This afternoon, we had David Hill come and talk to us about his career. David Hill is an accomplished New Zealand author who has published many successful books in his time as a writer. He has been an author now for about 30 years, publishing books such as; See Ya Simon, Enemy Camp, Sinking, My Brother's War and First to the Top. Today, David talked to us about his career as an author, his backstory, his books and what they mean to him. I particularly enjoyed when he read us a short story he wrote about Valentine's day. It was hilarious! Afterwards, we asked him some questions. He explained how most of his books are based on things himself or others have experienced. For example; See Ya Simon is based on a time when his daughter's best friend died at a young age, in high school. I really enjoyed reading this book, as it is really heartfelt and emotional. Another example is; My Brother's War, which is based on his great uncle Fred - and his time in the war. At the en
