Founders Day 2017

Image
Today we celebrated Southwell's 106th birthday for Founders Day 2017. It was a great day filled with heaps of fun and some funky line dancing! In the morning, we had a Founders Day chapel service where Bishop Helen-Ann gave an amazing inspirational speech. After morning tea, we had a short assembly in the Great Hall followed by gathering on the oval to have a party! To kick it off, each house participated in line dancing, with my house (Durham), dancing to Cotton Eye Joe. It was great fun, except for the worms which were everywhere! Yuck! Anyway, after the line dancing, we had a students vs teachers relay race, with the teachers taking it out in the end. Following the race, everyone linked up for GIANT school conga lines! After that, we released Southwell balloons into the world beyond to celebrate our school's 106th birthday! Later, we had performances from both rock bands during lunch on the oval. It was a great experience and definitely the best founders day I have

30/10 100 Word Challenge

Prompt: flame, swimming, celebrated, white, tomorrow I lit my candle on that night. A lonely flame , swimming in the haze, radiating warmth. An outcast, apart from a sea of light. I sit alone, away from the mass of people swathed in a colourful array. White . Enveloping me, folds and creases holding me tight. Dirty. Purity stained with the grime of the streets, a rat, I sit hunched on the steps, arms wrapped around my bloodied knees. Floating, bobbing in the waves, an offering set out to the world beyond, a beacon in the dark. Tomorrow , this light will be celebrated . And I will light my candle.

24/10 100 Word Challenge

Prompt: As the door slammed, I knew... As the door slammed, I knew there would be no going back. A shiver ran down my spine as I turned to take in the ceiling above me. A black night, smothering me, choking me, an endless void adorned with bone white shapes, hung like stars above. Skulls. Suddenly, a deep rumbling filled my ears, my chest, my lungs, and the room around me started to spin. Gasping for air, my knees gave into the ground beneath me, and I crumpled into it. My cheek pressed up against the cool marble, eyes wide open. Burning red, an inferno slicing through the darkness.

Sunrise, sunset. A breath of wind, has time gone by. Seconds to minutes, minutes to hours. Tick - tock. No time’s enough. To stop and smell the roses, an impossible feat. To listen. To just listen. To the soft rustle of leaves in the wind. To the roar of waves crashing against the shore. The ginger touch of morning frost settled on the lawn. To stand still, and embrace the sun’s warmth like an old friend. No. The clock keeps ticking, the world keeps spinning. We have no time, to appreciate.

100 Word Challenge - Treasured item

Broken hearted, cold and alone. A brush across my collarbone. The slightest touch, a breath of air. Reminding me of why it's there. Of friendships lost and friendships found, both of us forever bound. By this small treasure, taking it's course, around the world, back and forth. A promise I will always keep, my anchor connecting you and me. Flecks of gold, glinting in the light, will guide me through the darkest night. Now it waits, by my side, waiting, waiting, for you to arrive. You gave it to me when I was a child, a gift, a promise... of friendship .... can you guess what it is?....
