Sustainable Energy Sources
People across the globe use non- renewable energy sources which are bad for the planet, such as Oil and Coal. It is important that we use renewable, natural energy such as windmills, water dams and solar power.

Food
Many children around the globe aged 5 and under die of malnutrition. More children around the world are going to school hungry. Many can't even afford to get a proper education.

Homelessness
In most of the world, people are living in slums, with no electricity and living in terrible conditions. People are living on the streets. 1 in 5 children live in poverty. We need to create communities where everyone has access to equal resources.

Rubbish
Our planet is clogged up with rubbish... destroying the ecosystem, polluting our waterways and releasing harmful gases into the atmosphere. We need to find new and affordable ways to use recyclable and Eco - friendly materials in our everyday lives.


What can we do? How can we make a difference?

Prompt: ...but where would we hide it all?... I scuttle through the streets, covered in grime from head to toe. A bundle in my arms bobs up and down with slight footfalls. Blood red and crisp in the night air, defiance rests in my shivering hands, juicy and sweet. How I long to take just one bite, to sink my teeth into it’s perfect skin. Prompt: flame, swimming, celebrated, white, tomorrow I lit my candle on that night. A lonely flame , swimming in the haze, radiating warmth. An outcast, apart from a sea of light. I sit alone, away from the mass of people swathed in a colourful array. White . Enveloping me, folds and creases holding me tight. Dirty. Purity stained with the grime of the streets, a rat, I sit hunched on the steps, arms wrapped around my bloodied knees. Floating, bobbing in the waves, an offering set out to the world beyond, a beacon in the dark. Tomorrow , this light will be celebrated . And I will light my candle.

David Hill

This afternoon, we had David Hill come and talk to us about his career. David Hill is an accomplished New Zealand author who has published many successful books in his time as a writer. He has been an author now for about 30 years, publishing books such as; See Ya Simon, Enemy Camp, Sinking, My Brother's War and First to the Top. Today, David talked to us about his career as an author, his backstory, his books and what they mean to him. I particularly enjoyed when he read us a short story he wrote about Valentine's day. It was hilarious! Afterwards, we asked him some questions. He explained how most of his books are based on things himself or others have experienced. For example; See Ya Simon is based on a time when his daughter's best friend died at a young age, in high school. I really enjoyed reading this book, as it is really heartfelt and emotional.
